About Dr. Lee

Alfred Lee, MD, is a board-certified Gastroenterologist at Richmond Gastroenterology Associates. Dr. Lee sees patients primarily at the Colonial Heights, Virginia, office, but he also takes appointments at the Midlothian Center office in Chesterfield.

Dr. Lee is a graduate of the University of Rochester (U of R) and New York University (NYU) School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) and was then selected for a competitive fellowship in Gastroenterology at MCV.

“It was during my fellowship training that I truly learned to pay attention to the details of what my patients tell me. I realized that my patients are a wealth of information ….which is the best guide to helping them.”

Upon completing his medical training, Dr. Lee served as Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Virginia. In addition to teaching, he actively participated in research focusing on inflammatory bowel disease and biliary endoscopy such as ERCP.

Dr. Lee joined Richmond Gastroenterology Associates in 1989. He cares for patients with a full range of gastrointestinal and liver concerns. He has a special interest in treating patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.

He is skilled in performing endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy (EGD), and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

In November 2014, he achieved a 100% complete colon exam rate with a zero percent complication rate, and a 54.7% adenoma detection rate (for the 2014 calendar year for colonoscopy performance). Current medical literature considers these rates outstanding.

He is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the Richmond Academy of Medicine (RAM), and the Medical Society of Virginia.

Dr. Lee believes that one should never stop trying to improve the quality of their work. He maintains the highest quality standards currently advocated by gastrointestinal professional societies such as the AGA and ASGE.
