Serena Zhang, PA-C

Serena Zhang, PA-C is a certified Physician Assistant, practicing at Richmond Gastroenterology Associates. She sees patients at the Hanover office in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

Serena earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from South University Richmond in March 2023 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Neuroscience from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, which she completed in May 2018.

A Post-baccalaureate Intramural Research Training Awardee, Serena earned a prestigious position at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in June 2018, focusing on groundbreaking research and contributing to pioneering work in the Chlamydia Pathogenesis Section. The award recognizes outstanding individuals for their exceptional potential and commitment to advancing biomedical research.

Joining RGA in March 2024, Serena performs comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations, managing a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions such as constipation, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, GERD, hemorrhoids, IBD, IBS, esophageal disorders including dysphagia, and liver disease. She also provides patient education on preventative care and lifestyle modifications.

Sereana is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), and the Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants (VAPA).

She is fluent in Mandarin and has a limited working proficiency in Spanish. Having completed extensive clinical rotations across various medical specialties like behavioral health, emergency medicine, women’s health, and family medicine, Serena brings a diverse set of skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.
